Ranking a high position, it is hard to balance out your own output and the needs of your team members without missing out a few points from time to time. 1. Have an Email System

Email consumes a lot of time because it is how clients and team members usually communicate with you. Because of this, it is important to stay on top of what’s coming into your inbox, prioritize them, and respond in a timely manner.

There is no definite system that works for everyone so it’s best to find what works for you! Here are a few systems to try out:

Segregate mail into folders. Filters can be set up in settings to automatically categorize incoming mail, making it easier to prioritize what needs to be read, responded to or put on archive.

Set aside a specific time frame each day to sort through email and trying not to check it once that time is finished.  You can break it up like an hour in the morning, another in the afternoon and one more hour at night.

Email tools can also be of assistance if you find setting it up to be too much of a chore. However, this doesn’t only apply to email. Project management tools can help managers and team members keep things organized and running smoothly.

2. Block Time Off To Be Productive

Managers, especially marketing managers, often find themselves needed in different projects at once, making it almost impossible to find time to work on their own deadlines. Setting a specific time just for your own to-do list is one way to be productive and still be able to oversee how your team members are doing. This also helps your workmates know when not to schedule any meetings with you.

Some also opt to start being productive way before others do – or long after. Whether you prefer to do it early in the morning or at night when everyone else is about to hit the sack, set a little time aside to get some work done.

3. Book Meetings In Chunks

After you’ve booked your own time, schedule your meetings with others one after the other. One way of doing this is moving all meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or any other day that works for you. This helps you set a specific day to get updated without spreading it across the week and breaking up other parts of your days.

4. Reprioritize When Needed

Being a manager involves making tough decisions. One of these would be to effectively respond when things come up that is different from routine – and they usually do in marketing. The most effective managers are able to pinpoint the projects that need to be done immediately and which can wait – and for how long. It is important to understand the level of important and urgency each project holds to able to determine which one comes first.

5. Make Time For Exercise

We get that you’re busy but you’re not doing anyone a favor by not taking your health into consideration. Especially with the long days and sleepless nights, exercise is important so as not to put your physical and mental wellbeing at risk. Keeping both healthy can stabilize or better yet increase productivity and effectiveness.

6. Hold Focused Meetings

Meetings can easily turn into unproductive conversations. That is precious time you can’t afford to lose at the workplace – and in the world of online marketing in general. As a manager, it is your task to ensure your meetings are worthwhile. Prepare an agenda and send it out to attendees in advance so they can come prepared. Jot down minutes and agreements to ensure that every topic raised has a clear action item paired to it. Send this to the group so everyone is on the same page.

7. Be Grateful

Studies from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, and Columbia show that keeping a gratitude journal increases productivity. How? It’s simple. By writing down what you’re thankful for, you are increasing your level of happiness, thus increasing productivity.
