22 Apr Enjoy Your Personal Concert with VR Videos on YouTube
When it comes to enjoying your favorite bands or artist, there is nothing quite like the experience of a live show. However, it isn’t always possible to catch your favorites live. Maybe there are no tour dates scheduled for your nearest city, perhaps you have prior commitments, or maybe you were just not one of the lucky few who managed to score a ticket! Whatever your reason for not being able to attend the live event YouTube can offer you the next best thing – a fully immersive experience in your home! YouTube recently announced that they are going to be working alongside some of the top artists in the music industry to bring viewers fantastic live performances and music videos in VR.
Gorillaz Leads the Charge with Release of All New VR Video
One of the first artists to get in on the action is the award-winning virtual act Gorillaz. The band who were once named the most successful virtual act on the planet by The Guinness Book of World Records, have announced their return in the form of a brand-new VR video. The latest video is directed by Jamie Hewlett and features four brand new tracks from their upcoming album ‘Humanz.’ The six-minute film is a triumph of the most cutting edge VR technology and includes the full track ‘Saturnz Barz’ and highlights from 3 other songs.
Immerse Yourself in Live Music Events from Anywhere in the World
One of the most exciting aspects of these new immersive VR videos is going to be that viewers from all over the world are going to have the ability to experience live music events without even leaving the house. Imagine being able to enjoy the world’s best music festivals and the most highly anticipated concerts from the comfort of your home. Coachella shared VR 360 highlights from this year’s festival via their YouTube channel this year and more recently so did Ultra Music Festival. In fact, Ultra also live streamed a set from Hardwell in 360 degrees giving viewers at home a taste of the full live experience!
Get Behind the Music
YouTube have also been experimenting with ways to allow artists to share the story behind the music with the help of VR. Some today’s hottest artist have been working alongside YouTube to create immersive videos for fans. The new video for ‘Silvertongue’ by Young The Giant puts you right there in the audience while Hunter Hayes allows you to step right into the recording studio as he records ‘Yesterday’s Song.’ Perhaps one of the best examples is the recent video for The Naked & Famous’ new music video ‘Higher.’ The video was shot at YouTube Space LA and uses VR to allow viewers behind the scenes access.
The YouTube VR app is the perfect way to enjoy these videos in conjunction with the Daydream headset or Google Cardboard. However, even if you do not have a headset, you can still enjoy the 360-degree experience using your mobile device or desktop.
